Budapest is a city of changing viewpoints. Along the Pest-side Danube Promenade, the river opens up the skyline and gives the buildings a different presence. After dark, the illuminated waterfront shifts the mood again. The same walk can feel like a different place without changing its route.
The Chain Bridge links more than two banks. Crossing it changes the way you see the relationship between Buda's hills and Pest's streets. Give yourself time to look back as well as forward: the river is a thread through the visit, not simply a boundary to cross.
